Around 1930, this lily was renamed Sunrise by Johnson Water Gardens. With its huge flowers and long narrow, pointed petals, this waterlily can be a real show lily in warm or temperate regions. In cooler areas you can expect fewer blooms. It is currently one of the four largest-flowered hardy waterlilies (the others are
Hal Miller
, Yellow Queen, and Apple Blossom Pink). Sometimes the new spring leaves are twisted or poorly formed, however when the weather warms up, the leaves develop normally. This waterlily is a good choice for medium to large watergardens. This lily will do very well in USDA Zones 6 - 10, and somewhat less well in zones 3 - 5.
