Around 1930, this lily was renamed Sunrise by Johnson Water Gardens. With its huge flowers and long narrow, pointed petals, this waterlily can be a real show lily in warm or temperate regions. In cooler areas you can expect fewer blooms. It is currently one of the four largest-flowered hardy waterlilies (the others are Hal Miller, Yellow Queen, and Apple Blossom Pink). Sometimes the new spring leaves are twisted or poorly formed, however when the weather warms up, the leaves develop normally. This waterlily is a good choice for medium to large watergardens. This lily will do very well in USDA Zones 6 - 10, and somewhat less well in zones 3 - 5.
