This is one of the most common of the Nymphoides, having been in the hobby for many years. Its bright yellow flowers have graced many thousnads of ponds and were among the first things that I saw in my father's best friend's pond as a youngster. It is one of the reasons that I first became intrigued by water plants. Its habit is somewhat different from most of the Nymphoides in that its flowers and offspring are produced on a stem that also produces young platns as it produces flowers, not at all unlike the habit of the Water Poppy (IBP016). As with all of the Nymphoides, they do just fine all by themselves in a whiskey barrel, or some similar container, or in with other plants along the margins of a pond. It will grow in water up to 18" deep with no dificulty but willalso thrive in water that is only a few inches deep. Flowers are yellow and are not fringed. Reseeds freely. Its seeds look just like young ticks and can give a person a start if they are suddenly discovered stuck to a leg or arm. ZONE 8
