This is one of the group of Nymphoides that Produces adventitious plantlets on the leaves. From the same area of the leaf stem that the young platn grows, also emerge the numerous white, fringed flowers, each lasting a few days. As the young plant devleops, new plantlets develop on its leaves producing flowers all the while. This method of profligate reproduction eventually creates a large colony on the surface of the water to great effect. As the end of the season approaches, the plants reduce themselves to a cluster of thin, banana-like tubers. These recover in the spring. As with most Nymphoides, this one will tolerate some cold. The tubers are easily stored in barely damp peat. ZONE 8
