Tropical Waterlilies

This is one of the all time favorites for vigor, beauty, and size. Leaves easily reach 18 inches in diameter and are beautifully mottled with irregular purple variegations. Flowers are a combination of pink, yellow, and orange. Some say that it is like a Tequila Sunrise. They are generally over 6 inches in diameter during the peak season. As the weather turns cold, the normally dark green leaves with numerous irregular variegations, turn brilliant red and orange. Here in southern California, we frequently have flowers through the winter. By all means this is a must-have for any devoted water gardener. USDA ZONES 8-11

Large white blossoms, wide petals, and is a strong grower and a prolific bloomer. An excellent waterlily for medium to large watergardens. USDA ZONES 8-11

Petals are chartreuse half-way up and then shade to a light blue. Leaves are green, bronze speckledand have a wavy margin. USDA ZONES 8-11

The blossoms are deep blue, 10 to 12 inches across, have a spicy fragrance, and stand 6 to 8 inches above the surface of the water. The stamens are yellow with violet anthers, the sepals are marked with black dots and lines. The leaves, often more than 2 feet in diameter, are dark green and slightly speckled with brown above. Beneath, the leaves' color is red-purple along the edges shading to pale green in the center. The margins are wavy, with the lobes long and tapering. This waterlily is a good chioce for a large pond in a temperate climate. When stunted, this waterlily can do well in tub gardens or small ponds. USDA ZONES 8-11

Blossoms are light blue, six to eight inches in diameter, with yellow centers and a slight but delicious fragrance. The plant is a prolific bloomer. Leaves are more or less ovate, green on top and bottom, with fine purple variegations on the undersides. USDA ZONES 8-11

This is a beautiful pink night bloomer, the flowers often stay open until noon. The color of the blooms is a dark vermillion red, they are held high above the water's surface. The leaves are a medium to olive green with serrated and wavy edges. it does well in medium to large ponds in shallow water. USDA ZONES 8-11

This waterlily is richly scented, with deep pink flowers that can reach up to 8 to 10 inches in diameter. The blossoms are frequently held well above the water. The leaves are olive green with fine, purple variegations. It adapts well to small ponds. USDA ZONES 8-11

Fragrant, pure white flower that stands high above the water on a robust stalk. Oval leaves with splashes of burgundy. Viviparous. 5 to 8 foot leaf spread. ZONES 8-11

One of our recent acquisitions, this charming lily is both beautiful and very tough. It produces red-violet flowers and finely variegated leaves. It will grow to large size, but it is easily stunted with good results. It is one of the most vigorously viviparous lilies around, and it wil grow well into fall in mild climes. USDA ZONES 8-11

This is one of the best of the ‘red’ tropicals. In the spring and summer it almost always has numerous, large, hot pink, cupshaped flowers on display. The leaves are green becoming red on the edges with age. A good choice for a medium to large watergarden. USDA ZONES 8-11

King of the Blues is one of those plants that only comes along so often. It is a generous bloomer, is relatively winter hardy, is prolific, and it produces a display of flowers that just won't quit. It has dark blue, almost purple flowers with a bright yellow center that are held well above the water. The leaves are bright green with purplish blotches along the leaf margin and commonly reach more than 12 inches in diameter. USDA ZONES 8-11

Green and purple mottled leaves with a clear blue flower reaching to tips of purple. Free flowering with 4-5" flowers and 4-5' leaf spread. Slight fragrance makes this a sweet surprise. Excellent for use in any size water garden. USDA ZONES 8-11

One of the most beautiful of lilies. Leaves are mostly green with slight variegations, but the flowers are the richest red violet, with nearly black sepals, giving this plant a high place on my list for shear lushness and natural beauty. USDA ZONES 8-11

A viviparous waterlily that has large, light pink flowers with yellow centers. The leaves are dark green with red blotches. It is one of the most prolific of the viviparous waterlilies. USDA ZONES 8-11

Flowers are sky blue, 6 to 9 inches in diameter, saucer shaped, with broad petals and long peduncles holding them high above the water's surface. Leaves are green and marbled with brown. USDA ZONES 8-11

Queen of Siam is one of the nicest waterlilies in our collection, and with its large, boldly variegated leaves, and its deep pink flowers, it draws attention to itself from afar. The fact that it is viviparous means that it can naturalize easily in well established ponds. USDA ZONES 8-11

Beautiful golden yellow flowers, darker yellow towards the base of the petals. This is a very free flowering waterlily and has a slightly sweet fragrance. This is a good choice for small to large watergardens. USDA ZONES 8-11

Another fine viviparous lily, this one has dark green leaves and blue-violet flowers. It is one of the bloomingest fools in the pond, and will produce numerous flowers, almost non-stop, all season. USDA ZONES 8-11

A beautiful light pink night bloomer. The blossoms generally stay open into late morning. Leaves are a medium green and large. USDA ZONES 8-11

This is a beautiful, free blooming, purple and white lily that will grace any pond. The petals are a rich violet on the ends and change to white at their bases. It's viviparous, new plants develop in the center of the leaves. A well fed plant will produces numerous offspring in a season. An altogether outstanding plant which can be grown in virtually any pond. USDA ZONES 8-11

Nymphaea ampla caerulea. The fragrant, pale blue flowers can be up to 6 to 8 inches in diameter, and stand high above the water. This is one of the most generously blooming waterlilies, and frequently has as many as a half a dozen flowers open on a single day. The leaves are large, glossy green, and do not have variegations. Also called "Wood's Blue Goddess." USDA ZONES 8-11

Large, pure white flowers, held about a foot over the water's surface. Petals are long and pointed. Leaves are a bright medium green and can get large. Good for medium to large ponds. USDA ZONES 8-11

A miniature, the flowers are 4 inches across and lilac colored. The Blossom has rather broad petals, purple stamens, and is very, very, fragrant. The leaves are numerous, cicular in shape, 4 inches in diameter, dark green above and purplish underneath. This lily is well adapted to small ponds and tub gardens, It will do well in a larger pond around the edge in about 6 inches of water. USDA ZONES 8-11

This rare offering is one of the smallest of the water lilies. It comes from Madagascar, and is the most recently named species of Nymphaea. It produces small leaves, each with a red spot in the middle, and small pink/white flowers. It will grow and bloom in an aquarium or a pond, is shade tolerant, but will live in partial sun, and it reseeds freely. Can be grown in small barrel ponds on warm patios, or in well lit terrariums. USDA ZONES 8-11

Very pale blue large flower with feathery yellow center, stands 3-4 inches above the water surface. ZONES 8-11

Cup shaped pink flowers measuring 4 to 6 inches. Leaves are 6 to 10 inches across and the plant can spread out to 3 to 6 feet in full to partial sunlight. USDA ZONES 9-11

A fragrant and free blooming tropical that opens early in the morning and stays open until late evening. Medium blue outer petals and pink inner petals. Large oval leaves are heavily mottled with purple. ZONES 9-11

Very fragrant, large, peach-pink flowers. Free flowering. Leaves are green, speckled with maroon. Medium spread plant. USDA ZONES 8-11

Lilac pink flowers 6-8 inches across, with a feathery center. Dark green leaves with splashes of burgundy. Medium plant spread. USDA ZONES 8-11

Free flowering deep purple lily with a bright yellow center. Very sweet fragrance. Flowers can be 5-6 inches across. Compact plant. Green leaves with purple underside. Tolerates shade and cool temperatures. Viviparous, produces new plants in the center of it's leaves. USDA ZONES 8-11

Fragrant, pale blue flowers 6-8 inches across. Star like petals. Oval green leaves with burgundy mottling. Does well in a medium or large pond. Similar to Wood's Blue Goddess, but with heavily mottled pads. USDA ZONES 8-11

The Giant Waterlily. This beautiful waterlily has large (10 inch) blue-white flowers that emerge from the water. The plant is a perennial and grows from small tubers. The large circular leaves grow up to 30 inches in diameter and have toothed margins. This lily hails from New South Wales and Queensland.

Also known as Tiger Lotus, White Lotus, or Egyptian White Water-lily. Beautiful green leaves with sharply serrated margins. Bright white flowers. Also used as an aquarium plant. Night bloomer. Native of Africa.
