The flower color is rich, creamy canary yellow with a light pink blush at the bottoms of the sepals. The leaves are olive - green with bronze markings. Among the yellow hardy lilies, this is traditionally regarded as the brightest yellow. N. mexicana is a dwarf lily, which produces runners, allowinfg it to form large colonies. Best if planted in a tray, where it will have room to grow. Leaves are medium green and are lightly variegated with marroon blotches. Tolerates sun or shade.

This is one of the more satisfactory yellows in that it is a prolific bloomer, produces deep yellow flowers, and will grow well in small to medium sized ponds. Its deep green leaves are blotched with red variegations. It is very tough and hardy, which makes it a perfect lily for beginners.
