This is the common Cattail that virtually everyone is familiar with. The leaves grow up to 10 feet tall and 3/4 of an inch wide. It flowers in late spring/early summer and produces 'cattails' in late summer and fall. Good in large ponds as a vertical accent in a background. Erect, jointed stems grow to 4 feet tall. Some stems will form cones on their ends during the spring and summer. Perrenial rhizome. Will grow in water or on land. Can become invasive if allowed to do so. Excellent in shaded or sunny areas, adds an interesting effect to many sites.

It spreads by runners, which are easily pruned to desired limits. Also known as Sparkler Grass. A dwarf version of Cyperus alternifolius. Grows up to 2 feet, leaf whorls are 4 to 6 inches in diameter. An excellent choice for a small or shaded watergarden. In the summer, attractive dark brown small flowers appear at the end of each stem and contrast well with the foliage. Cut back yearly for fresh new growth. IBP Star Grass - Dichromena colorata

Also known as Star Rush or White-topped Sedge. Erect stems grow 12 to 15-1/2 inches tall. One of the distinguishing characteristics of the species are the white bracts that radiate from the ends of the stems. Clusters of brownish flowers are in the center of the whorl of bracts. The plants need to be pruned back when the stems get rangy and will recover quickly after having been severely pruned back. Provides a nice accent among darker foliage. Flowering in June, July, August, & September - Narrow leaves ZONE 8
